Many beauty experts will tell you that the first step in any skincare routine is vital, and when it comes to the 10 Step Korean Skincare Routine that couldn't be more true. You start with a double cleanse, and as if you couldn't already tell by the name it's actually a two-step first step. Wait, what?
The double cleanse was formed around the idea that the typical water-based cleansers that most of use on a daily basis is not enough. Water and oil don't mix so a water-based cleanser doesn't do the job of dissolving all the makeup and oil buildup on your face. This is where an oil-based cleanser shines (no pun intended). As the first step of the first step in the Korean skincare routine, an oil-based cleanser serves the purpose of gently and effectively breaking down the day's grime so you can start your skincare routine with truly clean skin.

The Product
My hands-down favorite oil-based cleanser is the Banila Co. Clean It Zero ($16+) because of it's effectiveness and solid form. If you've ever used an oil-based cleanser before then I'm sure you've experienced the unpleasant moment where it seeps between your fingers, runs down your arms and just gets everywhere. This cleanser goes on as a solid balm and transforms into a liquid once applied to your skin. The lightweight formula is supposed to effortlessly dissolve stubborn makeup without stripping the skin of essential nutrients. It's made with papaya extract to naturally exfoliate the skin and accrual extract which helps to brighten.
